I then removed trailing white space from benchtests/bench-pthread-locks.c and iconvdata/tst-iconv-big5-hkscs-to-2ucs4.c, to work around this diagnostic from Savannah: remote: *** pre-commit check failed ... remote: *** error: lines with trailing whitespace found remote: error: hook declined to update refs/heads/master

Similarly to what has been done for printf-like functions, more specifically to the internal implementation in __vfprintf_internal, this patch extends __vstrfmon_l_internal to deal with long double values with binary128 format (as a third format option and reusing the float128 implementation). 2019-02-22Break some lines before not after operators.Joseph Myers1-8/+8
The GNU Coding Standards specify that line breaks in expressions should go before an operator, not after one. This patch fixes various code to do this. It only changes code that appears to be mostly following GNU style anyway, not files and directories with substantially different formatting. It is not exhaustive even for files using GNU style (for example, changes to sysdeps files are deferred for subsequent cleanups). Some files changed are shared with gnulib, but most are specific to glibc. Changes were made manually, with places to change found by grep (so some cases, e.g. where the operator was followed by a comment at end of line, are particularly liable to have been missed by grep, but I did include cases where the operator was followed by backslash-newline). This patch generally does not attempt to address other coding style issues in the expressions changed (for example, missing spaces before '(', or lack of parentheses to ensure indentation of continuation lines properly reflects operator precedence). 2018-11-16Use STRFMON_LDBL_IS_DBL instead of __ldbl_is_dbl.Zack Weinberg1-4/+4
On platforms where long double used to have the same format as double, but later switched to a different format (alpha, s390, sparc, and powerpc), accessing the older behavior is possible and it happens via __nldbl_* functions (not on the API, but accessible from header redirection and from compat symbols). These functions write to the global flag __ldbl_is_dbl, which tells other functions that long double variables should be handled as double. This patch takes the first step towards removing this global flag and creates __vstrfmon_l_internal, which takes an explicit flags parameter. This change arguably makes the generated code slightly worse on architectures where __ldbl_is_dbl is never true; right now, on those architectures, it's a compile-time constant; after this change, the compiler could theoretically prove that __vstrfmon_l_internal was never called with a nonzero flags argument, but it would probably need LTO to do it. This is not performance critical code and I tend to think that the maintainability benefits of removing action at a distance are worth it. However, we _could_ wrap the runtime flag check with a macro that was defined to ignore its argument and always return false on architectures where __ldbl_is_dbl is never true, if people think the codegen benefits are important. Tested for powerpc and powerpc64le.

sys/cdefs.h has a macro __long_double_t used in two places in glibc. long double is a standard part of C since C89; there is no need for such an alias for it. This patch removes that macro and uses long double directly everywhere. As an implementation-namespace, undocumented symbol, it should not be considered part of the API for users, and codesearch.debian.net shows no sign of it being used outside glibc in a way that would break with this patch. 2016-06-23libio: Implement vtable verification [BZ #20191]Florian Weimer1-1/+1
This commit puts all libio vtables in a dedicated, read-only ELF section, so that they are consecutive in memory. Before any indirect jump, the vtable pointer is checked against the section boundaries, and the process is terminated if the vtable pointer does not fall into the special ELF section. To enable backwards compatibility, a special flag variable (_IO_accept_foreign_vtables), protected by the pointer guard, avoids process termination if libio stream object constructor functions have been called earlier. Such constructor functions are called by the GCC 2.95 libstdc++ library, and this mechanism ensures compatibility with old binaries. Existing callers inside glibc of these functions are adjusted to call the original functions, not the wrappers which enable vtable compatiblity. The compatibility mechanism is used to enable passing FILE * objects across a static dlopen boundary, too.
