On current minimum supported kernels, the SysV IPC on Linux is provided
by either the ipc syscalls or correspondent wire syscalls. Also, for
architectures that supports wire syscalls all syscalls are supported
in a set (msgct, msgrcv, msgsnd, msgget, semctl, semget, semop, semtimedop,
shmctl, shmat, shmget, shmdt).
The architectures that only supports ipc syscall are:
- i386, m68k, microblaze, mips32, powerpc (powerpc32, powerpc64, and
powerpc64le), s390 (32 and 64 bits), sh, sparc32, and sparc64.
And the architectures that only supports wired syscalls are:
- aarch64, alpha, hppa, ia64, mips64, mips64n32, nios2, tile
(tilepro, tilegx, and tilegx64), and x86_64
Also arm is the only one that supports both wire syscalls and the
ipc, although the ipc one is deprecated.
This patch adds a new define, __ASSUME_DIRECT_SYSVIPC_SYSCALL, that wired
syscalls are supported on the system and the general idea is to use
it where possible.
I also checked the syscall table for all architectures on Linux 4.9
and there is no change on described support for Linux 2.6.32/3.2.

This patch removes __ASSUME_FUTEX_LOCK_PI usage and assumes that
kernel will correctly return if it supports or not
futex_atomic_cmpxchg_inatomic.
Current PI mutex code already has runtime support by calling
prio_inherit_missing and returns ENOTSUP if the futex operation fails
at initialization (it issues a FUTEX_UNLOCK_PI futex operation).
Also, current minimum supported kernel (v3.2) will return ENOSYS if
futex_atomic_cmpxchg_inatomic is not supported in the system:

The futex_cmpxchg_enabled is initialized by calling cmpxchg_futex_value_locked,
which calls futex_atomic_cmpxchg_inatomic.
For ARM futex_atomic_cmpxchg_inatomic will be either defined (if both
CONFIG_CPU_USE_DOMAINS and CONFIG_SMP are not defined) or use the
default generic implementation that returns ENOSYS.
For m68k is uses the default generic implementation.
For mips futex_atomic_cmpxchg_inatomic will return ENOSYS if cpu has no
'cpu_has_llsc' support (defined by each chip supporte inside kernel).
For sparc, 32-bit kernel will just use default generic implementation,
while 64-bit kernel has support.
Tested on ARM (v3.8 kernel) and x86_64.

This patch removes the auto-generation for recvmsg and sendmsg syscall
and adjust the kernel-features.h for all architectures supported on
Linux. This patch follows the idea of 'Adjust kernel-features.h defaults
for socket syscalls.' (35ade9f11b9007ee9683529f2d33698ff35255c8) by define
__ASSUME_SENDMSG_SYSCALL and __ASSUME_RECVMSG_SYSCALL as supported by
default and undefine it for the architecture that do not support it
directly.
The main rationale is to make is easier add code wrapper over the syscall
to fix BZ#16919 (recvmsg standard compliance).
Tested on x86_64, i686, aarch64, armhf, and powerpc64le.

This patch removes the __ASSUME_GETDENTS64_SYSCALL macro, as its
definition is constant given the new kernel version requirements (and
was constant anyway before those requirements except for MIPS n32).
Note that the "#ifdef __NR_getdents64" conditional *is* still needed,
because MIPS n64 only has the getdents syscall (being a 64-bit ABI,
that syscall is 64-bit; the difference between the two on 64-bit
architectures is where d_type goes). If MIPS n64 were to gain the
getdents64 syscall and we wanted to use it conditionally on the kernel
version at runtime we'd have to revert this patch, but I think that's
unlikely (and in any case, we could follow the simpler approach of
undefining __NR_getdents64 if the syscall can't be assumed, just like
we do for accept4 / recvmmsg / sendmmsg syscalls on architectures
where socketcall support came first).
Most of the getdents.c changes are reindentation.
Tested for x86_64 and x86 that installed stripped shared libraries are
unchanged by the patch.

Current Linux kernel version requirements mean the signalfd4 syscall
can always be assumed to be available. This patch removes
__ASSUME_SIGNALFD4 and associated conditionals.
Tested for x86_64 and x86 that installed stripped shared libraries are

Given current Linux kernel version requirements, we can assume the
presence of the eventfd2 syscall. This means that __ASSUME_EVENTFD2
can be removed, and a syscalls.list entry suffices for eventfd instead
of needing a .c file. This patch implements those changes.
Tested for x86_64 and x86 (not that that means much, given the lack of
testsuite coverage for eventfd).

the fallocate syscall to be available. This patch removes
__ASSUME_FALLOCATE and a test for whether __NR_fallocate is defined.

With current kernel version requirements, the ppoll Linux syscall can
be assumed to be present on all architectures; this patch removes the
__ASSUME_PPOLL macro and conditionals on it and on whether __NR_ppoll
is defined. (Note that the same can't yet be done for pselect,
because MicroBlaze only wired that up in the syscall table in 3.15.)

This patch adjusts the defaults for kernel-features.h macros relating
to availability of accept4, recvmmsg and sendmmsg. It is not intended
to affect which macros end up getting defined in any configuration.
At present, all architectures with syscalls for those functions need
to define __ASSUME_*_SYSCALL macros; in particular, any new
architecture needs its own kernel-features.h file for that purpose,
though it may not otherwise need such a header. Those macros are then
used together with __ASSUME_SOCKETCALL to define macros for whether
the functions in question are available.
This patch changes the defaults so that the syscalls are assumed to be
available by default with recent-enough kernels, and it is the
responsibility of architecture headers to undefine the macros if they
are unavailable in supported kernels at least as recent as the version
where the architecture-independent functionality was introduced. The
__ASSUME_<function> macros are defaulted similarly instead of being
defined based on other macros (defining based on other macros would no
longer work because the #undefs appear after the generic header is
included), so where the syscall being unavailable means the function
is unavailable this means the architecture header has to undefine the
__ASSUME_<function> macro; this only affects __ASSUME_ACCEPT4 for
ia64, as other cases where the syscalls were added late enough to be
relevant with current kernel version requirements are all on
socketcall architectures.
As a consequence, the AArch64 and Nios II kernel-features.h header
files are removed, and others simplified. When the minimum kernel
version becomes 4.3 or later on all architectures, the syscalls in
question can just be assumed unconditionally, permitting further
simplification.
Tested for x86_64, x86 and powerpc (that installed shared libraries
are unchanged by the patch, and testsuite for x86_64 and x86).

This fixes (harmless) data races when accessing the various
__have_sock_cloexec variables.

PowerPC has always used __IPC_64 like most other architectures, which
means that __ASSUME_IPC64 can be always true. Also, all other
architecture implementations that use the ipc syscall are effectively
identical to the generic version and can be removed.

This patch removes the socket.S implementation for all ports and replace
it by a C implementation using socketcall. For ports that implement
the syscall directly, there is no change.
The patch idea is to simplify the socket function implementation that
uses the socketcall to be based on C implemetation instead of a pseudo
assembly implementation with arch specific parts. The patch then remove
the assembly implementatation for the ports which uses socketcall
(i386, microblaze, mips, powerpc, sparc, m68k, s390 and sh).
I have cross-build GLIBC for afore-mentioned ports and tested on both
i386 and ppc32 without regressions.

This patch makes __ASSUME_UTIMES hppa-specific, removing mentions of
the macro from architecture-independent code and code for other
architectures. (All other architectures either have the utimes
syscall in all relevant kernel versions, or use the asm-generic
interface so only have utimensat and won't get the utimes syscall.) A
similar approach is used to that used for futimesat for MicroBlaze: if
the kernel is recent enough that the utimes syscall can be assumed to
be present, use the implementation in terms of the utimes syscall, and
otherwise use the linux/generic implementation in terms of utimensat.
Tested x86_64 that the disassembly of installed shared libraries is
unchanged by the patch. Not tested for hppa.

This patch removes the __ASSUME_XFS_RESTRICTED_CHOWN macro, now it can
be presumed to be defined unconditionally. I'm not sure if what's
left of __statfs_chown_restricted is actually useful (if not, a
followup could remove it), but I left it there to keep the patch
conservative and avoid changing the code generated for glibc.
Tested x86_64 that the disassembly of installed shared libraries is
unchanged by the patch.

This patch removes the __ASSUME_UTIMENSAT macro, now it can be
unconditionally assumed to be true.
This shows that the only live uses of __ASSUME_UTIMES are in utimes.c
and they are only live for hppa. I intend a followup patch to make
__ASSUME_UTIMES into an hppa-specific macro (not used or defined
outside sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/hppa/).

This patch removes the __ASSUME_COMPLETE_READV_WRITEV
kernel-features.h macro, now that it can be unconditionally assumed to
be true. (The relevant kernel feature was added some time between 2.0
and 2.2, and this macro is only used in sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/.)

This patch reduces duplication between different architectures'
kernel-features.h files by making the architecture-independent file
define various macros unconditionally (instead of only for a
particular list of architectures), with the architecture-specific
files then undefining the macros if necessary.
Specifically, __ASSUME_O_CLOEXEC (O_CLOEXEC flag to open) and
__ASSUME_SOCK_CLOEXEC (SOCK_NONBLOCK and SOCK_CLOEXEC flags to socket)
are supported on all architectures as of 2.6.32 or the minimum kernel
version for the architecture if later. For __ASSUME_IN_NONBLOCK,
__ASSUME_PIPE2, __ASSUME_EVENTFD2, __ASSUME_SIGNALFD4 and
__ASSUME_DUP3, the relevant syscalls were added for alpha in 2.6.33
but otherwise the features are available as of 2.6.32. For
__ASSUME_UTIMES, support is everywhere in 2.6.32 except for
asm-generic architectures and hppa.
Although those were the main cases of duplication among
kernel-features.h files, some other cases of unnecessary definitions
were also cleaned up: the hppa file defined various macros that were
either no long |
