Only the placeholder compatibility symbols are left now.
The __errno_location symbol was removed (moved) using
scripts/move-symbol-to-libc.py.

This is part of the libpthread removal project:
<https://sourceware.org/ml/libc-alpha/2019-10/msg00080.html>
A new symbol version is added on libc to force loading failure
instead of lazy binding one for newly binaries with old loaders.
Checked with a build against all affected ABIs.

Linux/Alpha has two versions of several system call wrappers that take
or return data of type "struct timeval" (possibly nested inside a
larger structure). The GLIBC_2.0 version is a compat symbol that
calls __NR_osf_foo or __NR_old_foo and uses a struct timeval with a
32-bit tv_sec field. The GLIBC_2.1 version is used for current code,
calls __NR_foo, and uses a struct timeval with a 64-bit tv_sec field.
This patch changes all of the compat symbols of this type to be
wrappers around their GLIBC_2.1 counterparts; the compatibility system
calls will no longer be used. It serves as a proposal for part of how
we do the transition to 64-bit time_t on systems that currently use
32-bit time_t:
* The patched glibc will NOT use system calls that involve 32-bit
time_t to implement its compatibility symbols. This will make both
our lives and the kernel maintainers' lives easier. The primary
argument I've seen against it is that the kernel could warn about
uses of the old system calls, helping people find old binaries that
need to be recompiled. I think there are several other ways we
could accomplish this, e.g. scripts to scan the filesystem for
binaries with references to the old symbol versions, or issuing
diagnostics ourselves.
* The compat symbols do NOT report failure after the Y2038 deadline.
An earlier revision of this patch had them return -1 and set errno
to EOVERFLOW, but Adhemerval pointed out that many of them have
already performed side effects at the point where we discover the
overflow, so that would break more than it fixes. Also, we don't
want people to be _checking_ for EOVERFLOW from these functions; we
want them to recompile with 64-bit time_t. So it's not actually
useful for them to report failure to the calling code.
* What they do do, when they encounter overflow, is saturate the
overflowed "struct timeval"(s): tv_sec is set to INT32_MAX and
tv_nsec is set to 999999. That means time stops advancing for
programs with 32-bit time_t when they reach the deadline. That's
obviously going to break stuff, but I think wrapping around is
probably going to break _more_ stuff. I'd be interested to hear
arguments against, if anyone has one.
The new header file tv32-compat.h is currently Alpha-specific but I
mean for it to be reused to aid in writing wrappers for all affected
architectures. I only put it in sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/alpha for now
because I haven't checked whether the various "foo32" structures it
defines agree with the ABI for ports other than Linux/Alpha.

Alpha rt_sigaction syscall uses a slight different kernel ABI than
generic one:
arch/alpha/kernel/signal.c
90 SYSCALL_DEFINE5(rt_sigaction, int, sig, const struct sigaction __user *, act,
91 struct sigaction __user *, oact,
92 size_t, sigsetsize, void __user *, restorer)
Similar as sparc, the syscall expects a restorer function. However
different than sparc, alpha defines the restorer as the 5th argument
(sparc defines as the 4th).
This patch removes the arch-specific alpha sigaction implementation,
adapt the Linux generic one to different restore placements (through
STUB macro), and make alpha use the Linux generic kernel_sigaction
definition.
Checked on alpha-linux-gnu and x86_64-linux-gnu (for sanity).

This patch fixes the compat glob implementation consolidation from
commit 116f1c64d with the following changes:
- Add a compat implementation on s390 to avoid the architecture
to build the symbols on default linux oldglob.c by setting
GLOB_NO_OLD_VERSION.
- Remove the duplicate rule to build oldglob on alpha.
Checked on s390-linux-gnu and alpha-linux-gnu using build-many-glibc.py.

This patch consolidates the select Linux syscall implementation on
sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/select.c. The changes are:
1. Remove select from auto-generation syscalls.list on the architecture
that uses __NR_select.
2. Remove generic implementation add a default one that handle all
current cases (with the expection of alpha)
The new default implementation will either use __NR_select if
available of fallback to __NR_pselect6 otherwise.
3. Add a alpha outlier implementation which requires old compatibility
symbols.

As noted in bug 21260, sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/alpha/bits/netdb.h
defines struct netent with n_net of type unsigned long instead of the
correct uint32_t. This patch XFAILs that test in the conformtest
expectations for alpha. (This is not a fix for the bug, and it should
not be closed without an actual fix.)
Tested for alpha with build-many-glibcs.py.

This patch consolidates all Linux lseek/lseek64/llseek implementation
in on on sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/lseek{64}.c. It also removes the llseek
file and instead consolidate the LFS lseek implementation on lseek64.c
as for other LFS symbols implementations.
The general idea is:
- lseek: ABIs that not define __OFF_T_MATCHES_OFF64_T will preferable
use __NR__llseek if kernel supports it, otherwise they will use __NR_lseek.
ABIs that defines __OFF_T_MATCHES_OFF64_T won't produce any symbol.
- lseek64: ABIs with __OFF_T_MATCHES_OFF64_T will preferable use __NR_lseek
(since it will use 64-bit arguments without low/high splitting) and
__NR__llseek if __NR_lseek is not defined (for some ILP32 ports).
- llseek: files will be removed and symbols will be aliased ot lseek64.
ABI without __OFF_T_MATCHES_OFF64_T and without __NR_llseek (basically MIPS64n32
so far) are covered by building lseek with off_t as expected and lseek64
using __NR_lseek (as expected for off64_t being passed using 64-bit registers).
For this consolidation I mantained the x32 assembly specific implementation
because to correctly fix this it would required both the x32 fix for
{INLINE,INTERNAL}_SYSCALL [1] and a wrapper to correctly subscribe it to
return 64 bits instead of default 32 bits (as for times). It could a future
cleanup.
It is based on my previous {INTERNAL,INLINE}_SYSCALL_CALL macro [2],
although it is mainly for simplification.
Tested on x86_64, i686, aarch64, armhf, and powerpc64le.

Nothing depends on the PTW macro anymore, so the mechanism to define
PTW for recompliations of libc routines is no longer needed. The
source files are still recompiled for the nptl directory, just without
the “ptw-” prefix.
(Reducing the number of pattern rules in sysd-rules is critical for
improving make performance.)
|
|
With this change, we no longer add sysdep.o and similar objects which
are present in libc.a to other static libraries.
|
|
Since we require a new enough kernel all the time, the __ASSUME_FDATASYNC
define has been hardcoded to 1. That means we can delete the alpha file
for fdatasync now and rely on the syscalls list like other ports.
