I used these shell commands: ../glibc/scripts/update-copyrights $PWD/../gnulib/build-aux/update-copyright (cd ../glibc && git commit -am"[this commit message]") and then ignored the output, which consisted lines saying "FOO: warning: copyright statement not found" for each of 7061 files FOO. I then removed trailing white space from math/tgmath.h, support/tst-support-open-dev-null-range.c, and sysdeps/x86_64/multiarch/strlen-vec.S, to work around the following obscure pre-commit check failure diagnostics from Savannah. I don't know why I run into these diagnostics whereas others evidently do not. remote: *** 912-#endif remote: *** 913: remote: *** 914- remote: *** error: lines with trailing whitespace found ... remote: *** error: sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/statx_cp.c: trailing lines

2019-10-18Update sysvipc kernel-features.h files for Linux 5.1Adhemerval Zanella1-4/+8
Linux 5.1 adds missing SySV IPC syscalls to the syscall table for remanining one that still uses the ipc syscall on glibc (m68k, mips-o32, powerpc, s390, sh, and sparc32). However the newly added direct ipc syscall are different than the old ones: 1. They do not expect IPC_64, meaning __IPC_64 should be set to zero when new syscalls are used. And new syscalls can not be used for compat functions like __old_semctl (to emulated old sysvipc it requires to use the old __NR_ipc syscall without __IPC_64). Thus IPC_64 is redefined for newer kernels on affected ABIs. 2. semtimedop and semop does not exist on 32-bit ABIs (only semtimedop_time64 is supplied). The provided syscall wrappers only uses the wire-up syscall if __NR_semtimedop and __NR_semop are also defined. Checked on x86_64-linux-gnu and i686-linux-gnu on both a 4.15 kernel configure with default options and sysvipc tests on a 5.3.0 kernel with --enable-kernel=5.1. Tested-by: Paul A. Clarke <pc@us.ibm.com>
2019-10-17ipc: Refactor sysvipc internal definitionsAdhemerval Zanella1-0/+2
This patch refactor the internal sysvipc in two main points: 1. Add a new __ASSUME_SYSVIPC_DEFAULT_IPC_64 to infer the __IPC_64 value to be used along either the multiplexed __NR_ipc or wired-up syscall. The defaut value assumed for __IPC_64 is also changed from 0x100 to 0x0, aligning with Linux generic UAPI. The idea is to simplify the Linux 5.1 wire-up for sysvipc syscalls for some 32-bit ABIs (which expectes __IPC_64 being 0x0) and simplify new ports (which will no longer need to add ipc_priv.h). 2. It also removes some duplicated internal definition used on compat sysvipc symbols defined at ipc_priv.h (more specifically the __old_ipc_perm, SEMCTL_ARG_ADDRESS, MSGRCV_ARGS, and SEMTIMEDOP_IPC_ARGS). The idea is also to make it simpler to enable the new wire-up sysvipc syscall provided by Linux v5.1. There is no semantic change expected on any port. Checked with a build against all affected ABIs. 2018-03-07Refactor Linux ARCH_FORK implementationAdhemerval Zanella1-0/+3
This patch refactors the ARCH_FORK macro and the required architecture specific header to simplify the required architecture definitions to provide the fork syscall semantic and proper document current Linux clone ABI variant. Instead of require the reimplementation of arch-fork.h header, this patch changes the ARCH_FORK to an inline function with clone ABI defined by kernel-features.h define. 2017-03-09Consolidate Linux send implementationAdhemerval Zanella1-0/+1
This patch consolidates the send Linux syscall implementation on sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/send{to}.c. The changes are: 1. 2017-02-06Consolidate arm and mips posix_fadvise implementationsAdhemerval Zanella1-0/+3
As noted by c1f0601389db64d9, previous posix_fadvise consolidation broke on mips o32. As stated in commit message, MIPS o32 only defines __NR_fadvise64 and it is behaves like __NR_fadvise64_64. This patches consolidates both ARM and mips o32 version by fixing the ARM used option (__NR_fadvise64_64 withouth the alignment required by abi) and added another option, __ASSUME_FADVISE64_AS_64_64, which is used on mips o32. When this option is used, posix_fadvise will use __NR_fadvise64_64 behavior (by defining or not __ASSUME_FADVISE64_64_6ARG). For mips, if __NR_fadvise64_64 is not defined, __NR_fadvise will be used. I also updated the posix_fadvise comments to explain better the different kernel abi used in the supported architectures. I checked with a mips o32 and verified that posix_fadvise.o is indeed using 7 argument syscall with the expected argument position. I also checked on i686-linux-gnu and arm-gnu-eabihf. * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/arm/posix_fadvise.c: Remove file. * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/mips/mips32/posix_fadvise.c: Likewise. * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/mips/kernel-features.h (__ASSUME_FADVISE64_AS_64_64): Define. * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/posix_fadvise.c [__NR_fadvise64]: Add !defined __ASSUME_FADVISE64_AS_64_64 to use syscall issue. 2016-12-28Add __ASSUME_DIRECT_SYSVIPC_SYSCALL for LinuxAdhemerval Zanella1-0/+2
On current minimum supported kernels, the SysV IPC on Linux is provided by either the ipc syscalls or correspondent wire syscalls. Also, for architectures that supports wire syscalls all syscalls are supported in a set (msgct, msgrcv, msgsnd, msgget, semctl, semget, semop, semtimedop, shmctl, shmat, shmget, shmdt). The architectures that only supports ipc syscall are: - i386, m68k, microblaze, mips32, powerpc (powerpc32, powerpc64, and powerpc64le), s390 (32 and 64 bits), sh, sparc32, and sparc64. And the architectures that only supports wired syscalls are: - aarch64, alpha, hppa, ia64, mips64, mips64n32, nios2, tile (tilepro, tilegx, and tilegx64), and x86_64 Also arm is the only one that supports both wire syscalls and the ipc, although the ipc one is deprecated. This patch adds a new define, __ASSUME_DIRECT_SYSVIPC_SYSCALL, that wired syscalls are supported on the system and the general idea is to use it where possible. I also checked the syscall table for all architectures on Linux 4.9 and there is no change on described support for Linux 2.6.32/3.2. * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/kernel-features.h (__ASSUME_DIRECT_SYSVIPC_SYSCALL): New define. * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/i386/kernel-features.h (__ASSUME_DIRECT_SYSVIPC_SYSCALL): Undef. * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/m68k/kernel-features.h (__ASSUME_DIRECT_SYSVIPC_SYSCALL): Likewise. * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/mips/kernel-features.h (__ASSUME_DIRECT_SYSVIPC_SYSCALL): Likewise. * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/powerpc/kernel-features.h (__ASSUME_DIRECT_SYSVIPC_SYSCALL): Likewise. * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/s390/kernel-features.h (__ASSUME_DIRECT_SYSVIPC_SYSCALL): Likewise. * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/sh/kernel-features.h (__ASSUME_DIRECT_SYSVIPC_SYSCALL): Likewise. * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/sparc/kernel-features.h (__ASSUME_DIRECT_SYSVIPC_SYSCALL): Likewise.
2016-07-08Remove __ASSUME_OFF_DIFF_OFF64 definitionAdhemerval Zanella1-1/+0
This patch removes the __ASSUME_OFF_DIFF_OFF64 define introduced in p{read,write} consolidation patch. This define was added based on the idea 32 bits ports would continue to follow previous off{64}_t definition where off_t size differs from off64_t one. However, with recent AArch64/ILP32 patch submission and also with discussion for RISCV kernel interface, 32 bits ports now may aim to use off_t and off64_t with the same size as 64 bits. So current assumption for both p{read,write} and p{read,write}v are not compatible with new type definition. This patch now makes the syscall wrappers to only depend on __OFF_T_MATCHES_OFF64_T to define the default and 64-suffix variant, as follow: <function>.c #ifndef __OFF_T_MATCHES_OFF64_T /* build <function> */ #endif and <function>64.c /* build <function>64 */ #ifdef __OFF_T_MATCHES_OFF64_T weak_alias (fallocate64, fallocate) #endif Tested on x86_64, i686, x32, and armhf. * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/mips/kernel-features.h (__ASSUME_OFF_DIFF_OFF64): Remove define. * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/pread.c [__WORDSIZE != 64 || __ASSUME_OFF_DIFF_OFF64] (pread): Replace by __OFF_T_MATCHES_OFF64_T. * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/pread64.c [__WORDSIZE != 64 || __ASSUME_OFF_DIFF_OFF64] (pread64): Likewise. * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/preadv.c [__WORDSIZE != 64 || __ASSUME_OFF_DIFF_OFF64] (preadv): Likewise. * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/preadv64.c [__WORDSIZE != 64 || __ASSUME_OFF_DIFF_OFF64] (preadv64): Likewise. * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/pwrite.c [__WORDSIZE != 64 || __ASSUME_OFF_DIFF_OFF64] (pwrite): Likewise. * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/pwrite64.c [__WORDSIZE != 64 || __ASSUME_OFF_DIFF_OFF64] (pwrite64): Likewise. * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/pwritev.c [__WORDSIZE != 64 || __ASSUME_OFF_DIFF_OFF64] (pwritev): Likewise. * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/pwritev64.c [__WORDSIZE != 64 || __ASSUME_OFF_DIFF_OFF64] (pwritev64): Likewise.
2016-06-13Remove __ASSUME_FUTEX_LOCK_PIAdhemerval Zanella1-1/+0
This patch removes __ASSUME_FUTEX_LOCK_PI usage and assumes that kernel will correctly return if it supports or not futex_atomic_cmpxchg_inatomic. Current PI mutex code already has runtime support by calling prio_inherit_missing and returns ENOTSUP if the futex operation fails at initialization (it issues a FUTEX_UNLOCK_PI futex operation). Also, current minimum supported kernel (v3.2) will return ENOSYS if futex_atomic_cmpxchg_inatomic is not supported in the system: kernel/futex.c: 2628 long do_futex(u32 __user *uaddr, int op, u32 val, ktime_t *timeout, 2629 u32 __user *uaddr2, u32 val2, u32 val3) 2630 { 2631 int ret = -ENOSYS, cmd = op & FUTEX_CMD_MASK; [...] 2667 case FUTEX_UNLOCK_PI: 2668 if (futex_cmpxchg_enabled) 2669 ret = futex_unlock_pi(uaddr, flags); [...] 2686 return ret; 2687 } The futex_cmpxchg_enabled is initialized by calling cmpxchg_futex_value_locked, which calls futex_atomic_cmpxchg_inatomic. For ARM futex_atomic_cmpxchg_inatomic will be either defined (if both CONFIG_CPU_USE_DOMAINS and CONFIG_SMP are not defined) or use the default generic implementation that returns ENOSYS. For m68k is uses the default generic implementation. For mips futex_atomic_cmpxchg_inatomic will return ENOSYS if cpu has no 'cpu_has_llsc' support (defined by each chip supporte inside kernel). For sparc, 32-bit kernel will just use default generic implementation, while 64-bit kernel has support. 2016-04-11Consolidate pread/pread64 implementationsAdhemerval Zanella1-0/+1
This patch consolidates all the pread/pread64 implementation for Linux in only one (sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/pread.c). It also removes the syscall from the auto-generation using assembly macros. For pread{64} offset argument placement the new SYSCALL_LL{64} macro is used. For pread ports that do not define __NR_pread will use __NR_pread64 and for pread64 ports that dot define __NR_pread64 will use __NR_pread for the syscall. 2016-04-11Consolidate off_t/off64_t syscall argument passingAdhemerval Zanella1-0/+6
This patch add three new macros (SYSCALL_LL, SYSCALL_LL64, and __ASSUME_WORDSIZE64_ILP32) to use along with off_t and off64_t argument syscalls. The rationale for this change is: 1. Remove multiple implementations for the same syscall for different architectures (for instance, pread have 6 different implementations). 2. Also remove the requirement to use syscall wrappers for cancellable entrypoints. The macro usage should be used along __ALIGNMENT_ARG to follow ABI constrains for architecture where it applies. For instance, pread can be rewritten as: return SYSCALL_CANCEL (pread, fd, buf, count, __ALIGNMENT_ARG SYSCALL_LL (offset)); Another macro, SYSCALL_LL64, is provided for off64_t. The macro __ASSUME_WORDSIZE64_ILP32 is used by the ABI to define is uses 64-bit register even if ABI is ILP32 (for instance x32 and mips64-n32). The changes itself are not currently used in any implementation, so no code change is expected. * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/generic/sysdep.h (__ALIGNMENT_ARG): Move definition. This patch defines __ASSUME_ALIGNED_REGISTER_PAIRS for the missing ports that require 64-bit value (e.g., long long) to be aligned to an even register pair in argument passing. 2016-03-15Adjust kernel-features.h defaults for socket syscalls.Joseph Myers1-9/+0
This patch adjusts the defaults for kernel-features.h macros relating to availability of accept4, recvmmsg and sendmmsg. It is not intended to affect which macros end up getting defined in any configuration. At present, all architectures with syscalls for those functions need to define __ASSUME_*_SYSCALL macros; in particular, any new architecture needs its own kernel-features.h file for that purpose, though it may not otherwise need such a header. Those macros are then used together with __ASSUME_SOCKETCALL to define macros for whether the functions in question are available. This patch changes the defaults so that the syscalls are assumed to be available by default with recent-enough kernels, and it is the responsibility of architecture headers to undefine the macros if they are unavailable in supported kernels at least as recent as the version where the architecture-independent functionality was introduced. The __ASSUME_<function> macros are defaulted similarly instead of being defined based on other macros (defining based on other macros would no longer work because the #undefs appear after the generic header is included), so where the syscall being unavailable means the function is unavailable this means the architecture header has to undefine the __ASSUME_<function> macro; this only affects __ASSUME_ACCEPT4 for ia64, as other cases where the syscalls were added late enough to be relevant with current kernel version requirements are all on socketcall architectures. As a consequence, the AArch64 and Nios II kernel-features.h header files are removed, and others simplified. When the minimum kernel version becomes 4.3 or later on all architectures, the syscalls in question can just be assumed unconditionally, permitting further simplification. Tested for x86_64, x86 and powerpc (that installed shared libraries are unchanged by the patch, and testsuite for x86_64 and x86). * sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/kernel-features.h (__ASSUME_ACCEPT4_SYSCALL): Define unconditionally.
